Ford has seen so much success with their EcoBoost engine options onboard vehicles like Flex and LINCOLN's MKS that a new four-cylinder option has just been announced. It will soon be available on select Ford models at Metro Ford, your Independence Ford dealer.
Up until now, EcoBoost has only been available in V6 format. But Ford's decision to make a 4-cylinder variant may prove highly successful. At the start of this EcoBoost line up will be the Ford Edge and Explorer SUV, available for test drive today at Metro Ford.
Ford's Ecoboost works as an addition of separate direct injection variable cam timing and turbocharging technology, added to a downsized engine, resulting in a smaller engine providing the power of a larger one.
Ford Motor Co. hopes to produce "approximately 1.5 million EcoBoost engines" world wide by 2013. That's 200,000 more than originally anticipated. That means 80% of Ford's global fleet will have Ecoboost, and 90% of North American cars containing the blue oval.
There are also plans to have a newly developed 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost unit for the Ford F-150. Be sure to check out Metro Ford as these plans progress.
